Just about 2hours earlier I had emailed a friend and mentioned, 1/2 joking, that we were due to get "hurricane force" winds along with this huge rain storm we were enduring.
Well, the winds had to have been pretty high to have pulled this mature tree up from the roots.
It fell at the perfect angle...just barely missing our house and actually diagonally crossing our front patio.
You cannot get to our front door. :) unless you want to try to crawl thru a mess of tree limbs!
John has hated this tree and is NOT sad to see it uprooted! Now he can plant a tree he likes. :)
AND...my dad is a wood worker so he and John are gonna slice it up this afternoon and tomorrow -hopefully saving some pieces for dad to make some nice bowls or something.

Funny how stuff like this happens when precious kids are about to come home. Glad you house and your family are safe.
We lost a tree, too, but it was a smaller one - and one that we were going to pull out anyway! See, God was just doing the hard work for us! :) I heard the winds were about 65 mph out here yesterday.
WOW!! Glad to see it missed the house!
Oh my lands, am I glad to see that it missed your house. And maybe having it across the front porch will help you avoid door-to-door salespeople for a day or two.
Oh my word! So glad it missed the house. And nice that John didn't like the tree and now you won't have to pay for someone to take it down.
Wow! Glad it didn't hit your house (or any of you guys!) That must have been some wind!
