Elizabeth's 2nd Jaw Surgery

On June 28th, Miss Elizabeth had her much anticipated 2nd jaw surgery.
This surgery was to remove 1 of the 2 plates in her jaw (the other is now locatedup by the cheek bone and to remove it would have exposed her to a high risk of facial nerve damage) and the long metal post that connected the plates. 

 Here she is...ready to head to the Children's Hospital.

As soon as we arrived, we were notified that we were about an hour delayed due to an emergency trauma surgery that came in. 

That gave Elizabeth plenty of time to watch a Bar*bie DVD. :)

 While we waited, Kaylie the Therapy Dog came for a visit. :)
Grandma and Grandpa's Golden Retriever, Daisy, is being trained to be a therapy dog as well...so it was fun getting to talk to Kaylie's "mom" and play with Kaylie.

Surgery went very well...and in about 1/2 the time as the first one (much easier to take out the devices than implant them).  The surgeon told us, once again, EVERYONE who helped with Elizabeth was absolutely smitten with her.  We thought she might be exaggerating ~but in recovery, several nurses came by to check on her...and her anesthesiologist kept telling us how pleasant she was to work with!

Elizabeth was to have 7-10 days of continued rest/little activity and NO swimming until the wound was scabbing over.

And of course, NOTHING can ever go as planned with us....on day 9, she developed a bad rash around the incision site..then on day 11, she broke out in hives ALL over her little body.

We think it was a delayed reaction to the antibiotics (stopped on day 8)....but due to the complications, she had to stay on the "no swimming" edict for another week.

On July 15th -Miss Elizabeth was the happiest little girl in the world as we allowed her in the pool for the first time this summer!!!

She has been swimming EVERY day since....it's so wonderful to have life back to "normal" now..including Elizabeth being able to get back to her active athletic little self
